Only Love Today
Today I'm writing nothing new under the sun and borrowing inspiration from Rachel Macy Stafford's book, Only Love Today: Reminders to Breathe More, Stress Less, and Choose Love. She shares the importance learning to wait a moment and when to seize a moment:
Wait for the perfect wave,
but don't wait for a vacation to spend time with the people you love.
Wait for your little straggler to catch up,
but don't wait for the scale to tell you when to jump in the pool.
Wait for the marshmallow to turn the perfect shade of brown,
but don't wait for a bigger table to invite friends over to eat.
Wait for your loved one to get his words out,
but don't wait until you're completely confident to tell your story.
Wait for her to tie her own shoes,
but don't wait until you're in tip-top shape to run the race.
Wait for the sunset,
but don't wait to say you're sorry.
Wait for the elderly man to shuffle across the street,
but don't wait until you feel "ready" to pursue your dream.
Wait for the hurtful words to dissolve before you speak,
but don't wait to say, "I love you just the way you are."
How often to we get everything all mixed up, waiting on the wrong things and rushing the good things, and in the process miss the joy right in front of us. Just for today, let's get it right.
